As the 2026 season draws nearer, the Ohio State roster is coming into focus more. Ryan Day is closer to figuring out who is going to see the field when the games start in a couple of weeks. A few freshmen have really stood out in the spring and in training camp, and could see some playing time.
One of those freshmen is receiver Brock Boyd. Boyd turned heads in the spring, and that hype only increased after his performance in the first scrimmage that the team had in Fall camp. Now, head coach Ryan Day is telling fans that he is going to have a strong freshman year.

When asked about Boyd during a press conference, Day made it very clear that Boyd will be seeing the field this year, although he's not sure how much yet.
"I think that he's gonna play. How much is to be determined, but he will play. Somebody who's had a really good camp. He's practiced every day. When you're out there every day, and you're playing with the ones and twos, and you're mixing yourself in there, he's gotten a lot of reps with the ones in the past week; you continually get better. Julian is comfortable throwing him the ball. He's got really good body language in and out of breaks. He's smart, knows how to run routes, can play multiple positions. I think as he continues to work this week, he's going to find himself playing a lot this week."
Day is very excited about what Boyd is able to provide the team. He seems to be getting more hype than Chris Henry Jr., and Henry Jr. was a five-star recruit. It seems that both freshman receivers will find ways to get on the field and impact the offense in a big way early in their careers.
Brock Boyd could be the most underrated recruit in the 2026 class
Boyd was unheralded coming out of high school. He was just a three-star recruit coming out of Texas, so he wasn't getting a lot of attention from the big programs. However, he is quickly proving that he could be the most underrated recruit for the Ohio State Buckeyes in this class.
Day seems to think that Boyd could be the third or fourth receiver this year. That's pretty good value to get out of someone who is a three-star recruit. Day noted that they have a very tough schedule this year, so that is something he needs to take into consideration.
Later in the press conference, Day says that he could reasonably see up to six receivers playing this season. That means Jeremiah Smith, Devin McCuin, Brandon Inniss, Kyle Parker, Henry Jr., and Boyd could all see the field. Day thinks this is a much deeper receiver group than a year ago.
That means that Ohio State shouldn't have any issues moving the ball this season. That's good, because they were voted the top-ranked team in the country for a reason.
