The Ohio State football program has started spring practice. So far, they have only had a couple of them. Yet that has been enough for the Buckeyes to get some solid work in. Some players have already done their best to make an impression on the coaching staff.
Ryan Day is trying to get his players to be ready for the end of next season. The end of the 2025 season is when they fell apart, losing to Indiana and Miami in back-to-back games. They did have the shortest offseason that they have ever had after winning it all in 2024.
Day has 51 new players that he has to get ready for the season with the Buckeyes. When asked about which group of players has impressed him so far, Day decided to go with a group that has a new position coach and faced a lot of turnover in the offseason.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day praises the wide receivers
Day had some good things to say about the wide receiver room. He was on the Always College Football Podcast and explained to Greg McElroy why he likes the receivers and what they have done.
"The addition of some of our guys in the portal, Devin and Kyle, they've already provided a certain level of just maturity, experience to the group. Which has been great. Then you have Phill Bell, Dez Jones, and these guys have been in the program for a couple of years. So they're looking to take the next step. Then you have these young guys. Chris Henry, Brock Boyd, and Jerquaden Guilford, they're very, very talented young players. It's kind of like three levels. At all of those levels, you can find those guys on the field."
Day didn't even mention Jeremiah Smith, who is the best player in college football. He is a ridiculously good player and will be the focal point of the offense next year again. Despite losing five receivers from a year ago, Day thinks that this is the deepest group he's ever had in that room.
It will be up to Cortez Hankton and Arthur Smith to help develop those guys. Smith is already a freak, but everyone else in that room is trying to reach that same freakish level. From what he's seen in a couple of practices, Day already loves what he's got to work with this year.
