The Ohio State football program continues to navigate the Transfer Portal with just a few days left before it closes. At the same time, they are learning who is deciding to declare for the draft, as well. Max Klare decided to leave the Buckeyes for the NFL, which was expected.
Still, having Klare leave puts the offense in a worse spot than it was this past season. He was one of the key players that Sayin could dump the ball to when he got in trouble. He was also someone they could throw the ball to during a critical third-and-short situation.
The Ohio State Buckeyes did get some good news on Tuesday afternoon when it comes to draft decisions, though. They learned that they will be getting one of their key offensive linemen back for 2026, as left guard Luke Montgomery has decided to return for 2026.
Luke Montgomery will return to the Ohio State football team
Montgomery was one of the best offensive linemen that the Buckeyes had this season. It was a unit that struggled in the final two games of the year, but Montgomery played pretty well all year long. Ryan Day has to be pleased to get him back, especially with so many skill players gone.
Ohio State still needs to figure out the right side of the line, but having Montgomery back at least lets them know that one guard spot will be secure. With Tegra Tshabola now at Kentucky, the Buckeyes have to find a new starting right guard for next year.
Adding an offensive lineman from the Transfer Portal would be a nice addition if Day and his staff could manage it. Jordan Seaton is now in the portal, and he would be a welcome addition. Even if it's not someone as good as him, it would be wise to add another body up front.
