Ryan Day gives a non-answer about Ohio State football injury, which says it all
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has had some unfortunate injuries this year. Cody Simon has missed time. Donovan Jackson missed the first couple of games. Carnell Tate was held out of a game too. Quinshon Judkins just had surgery because of a hand injury.
While in Eugene, the Buckeyes got hit hard with injuries again. Tight end Will Kacmarek is likely out for the year with an injury. Josh Simmons, the starting left tackle, is going to miss the rest of the year with a leg injury. There are rumors of another player getting hurt in practice.
There are rumors that Lathan Ransom suffered an injury during practice over the bye week. The rumors are that he is going to miss weeks, not days. When asked about it during his weekly press conference, Ryan Day declined to comment on that, which speaks volumes.
Ryan Day confirms an injury to Lathan Ransom without confirming it
Deciding to remain mum on the issue confirms Buckeye fans' worst fears. Ransom is hurt. If he wasn't Day, would have come out and refuted the rumors immediately. Instead, he didn't say anything. That means that Ransom is hurt and they're still trying to figure out how bad it is.
The Ohio State Buckeyes already got destroyed on defense by the Ducks. Losing a starter in the secondary isn't going to help them be any better. Ransom has played pretty well for the most part this season. The corners were more of the problem against the Ducks.
This would be a disaster for the Buckeyes if he misses a significant amount of time. He is a valuable leader on this team and they use him to help stop the run. Ohio State isn't super-deep at safety either. It sounds like Lorenzon Styles might start for him if he's hurt. That's not what Buckeye fans want to hear.
We probably won't find out for sure about Ransom's injury until right before the game on Saturday. Either way, it's not good news that these rumors are even floating around.
