Ryan Day has completely flipped the narrative surrounding him as the Ohio State football team's head coach. He is no longer a guy who can't win big games. After winning the national championship last season, he has shed all notions that he's a coach the Buckeyes can't win with.
Since losing to Michigan a year ago, the Ohio State Buckeyes have been on a warpath. The Buckeyes have won 14 straight games and are the top-ranked team in the country again. They are massive favorites over the next two opponents they face as well, Rutgers and TTUN.
Day has been a good coach for a long time. He's coached in two national championship games and has won two Big Ten championships. Yet, he's never won a national coaching award. This year, he has a chance to do just that, as he's been named a semi-finalist for one.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day named a semifinalist for Coach of the Year
Day has been named a semifinalist for the George Munger Coach of the Year Award. That award is given to the best coach in the country in a given year. With the Buckeyes running through every opponent they've played against this season, he's certainly deserving of winning this award.
There is some stiff competition for Day to win this. Kirby Smart, Kalen DeBoer, and Curt Cignetti are just some of the other coaches on the list as semifinalists. In order for Day to win it, he will likely have to win the last two games on the regular-season schedule and win the Big Ten Championship.
Beating Indiana in that final game would give the Buckeyes the number-one overall seed in the College Football Playoff and give Day a great claim to win this award. He's not worried about that, though. He is only worried about beating TTTUN, winning the conference championship, and repeating as national champs.
