The Ohio State football program has changed its Spring practice procedures from past years. After completing the longest season in college football history, the Buckeyes have throttled back the intensity of some of their practices and have given some guys some rest.
Ryan Day also initially said that the Buckeyes weren't going to have a Spring Game. He started calling it a "Spring Showcase" as opposed to a Spring Game. It was unclear what he meant by that and what kind of format that would entail. It doesn't matter now because Day has changed his tune.
Speaking with the media following practice on Monday, Day confirmed that the Ohio State Buckeyes will be having a Spring Game. He told the media that he initially wanted to call it a showcase to leave himself some wiggle room in case there are some injuries or if he thinks his team needs more rest.
The Ohio State football program will have a normal Spring Game
Ohio State will have a Spring Game more in line with what they have had in the past. The Buckeyes will allow the fans to watch the team grow and see who is first on the depth chart as they move forward. That will be exciting for the fans who will be there in the Shoe.
Don't expect to see too much hard tackling. Day hasn't had his teams do much of that in the past, so I wouldn't expect that to change. The most important thing is that his guys come out of Spring healthy. They still have time to improve as the summer turns into Fall.
It'll be interesting to see which quarterback gets the first rep in the Spring Game. That could be a clue as to who is the leader in the clubhouse at the end of Spring practices.
