The Ohio State football program has ended the month of June spectacularly on the recruiting trail. They landed several highly-ranked recruits during the month, including another five-star defensive lineman. Ryan Day and his staff are doing their best to get commitments this summer after a slow start to the 2027 recruiting class.
Tim Walton was the guy who got the commitment barrage started. He landed a pair of commitments at the cornerback spot in the middle of the month. That helped jumpstart the momentum that the Buckeyes are currently riding as the month of July approaches.
Walton might not be done collecting commitments, either. Another cornerback recruit is about to make his commitment announcement. Four-star cornerback Monsanna Torbert has officially set his commitment date, and the Buckeyes feel great about their chances of landing him.
Four-star CB recruit Monsanna Torbert sets commitment date for July 1
Torbert has officially set his commitment for Wednesday, July 1, at 5 pm. The Ohio State Buckeyes are fighting two other Big Ten programs for his services. Both Michigan and Indiana are also trying to bring him in. Ohio State feels good about its chances of landing him, though.
Torbert stands at 5'11 and 175 pounds. He is someone who has already visited Ohio State on June 12. He then went to Ann Arbor the following weekend. Torbert has already decommitted from the Hoosiers, so it's highly unlikely that he will end up committing there.
Ohio State feels like they have the upper hand over TTUN. This is one of the few head-to-head battles that the Buckeyes have had with the Wolverines in the 2027 recruiting cycle. If Ohio State is able to bring him in, he would become the third cornerback in this class.
It would likely be the final cornerback that Ohio State would take in this class. Taking more than three or four cornerbacks is extremely uncommon for the Buckeyes to do. Adding a talent like Torbert would certainly help the depth of that room, which is already very talented.
Ryan Day has played the 2027 recruiting cycle almost perfectly
Day has done a great job with the 2027 class and getting the proper commitments at the right time. In the 2026 recruiting class, Day had some recruits commit early before flipping closer to Signing Day. That cycle of recruiting was not great for the Buckeyes and their ultimate goals.
Now, Day has taken things slower and used the proper NIL techniques to get the elite recruits that they want. He has clearly adjusted to the guys he wants to bring in and done what it takes to get the right kinds of players for the program. Not everyone is right for the program.
Getting a commitment from Torbert would be an excellent start to the month of July. July is when the Buckeyes start to get practicing again, and the college football season starts to get real. This is the most important month of the entire offseason coming up.
