Will Howard is proving to be exactly what the Ohio State football team needs
By Ryan Stano
After last season, the Ohio State football team knew they needed to make a change. The offense was good, but not great. A lot of it stemmed from quarterback play. Kyle McCord was good, but not great. He couldn't elevate the offense to where they needed to be, especially in the last game against Michigan.
To be fair to McCord, it wasn't all his fault either. The offensive line was poor and didn't get any movement when it came to the run game. They had issues pass-blocking against Michigan as well. Still, McCord didn't have the tools to overcome that.
So the Buckeyes made a change. Out goes McCord and in came Will Howard. Howard has a wealth of starting experience coming from Kansas State. He has played in big games before and knows how to handle the moment. So far this season, he's shown to be the perfect fit for the Buckeyes.
Will Howard is exactly what the Ohio State football team needs
Howard hasn't tried to be the hero in the offense because he knows he doesn't need to be. He has two of the best running backs in the country to hand the ball off to and has receivers who can take it to the house at any given moment. The offense is explosive as long as the ball gets to the right place.
That's what Howard has been able to do so far. Ohio State had touchdown passes of 68 and 53 yards against Marshall. That's because Howard got the ball out of his hands quickly to someone who can make a big play. He hasn't tried to force the ball anywhere either.
Howard has just one interception on the year and that was because Jeremiah Smith stopped running a go route. Howard can run the ball too, which makes him even more dangerous. He's everything the Buckeyes need to make a run at a national championship.
