Why Tennessee is being rated higher than Ohio State by some people
By Tyler Lyman
Look I'm not going to sugar coat it. So far, Ohio State has struggled in the beginning of almost all of their first three games. However, once they clicked they looked like no team can stop them.
Everyone knows Ohio State doesn't play very good competition until Oregon and Michigan. But that does not mean Tennessee deserves to be getting so much praise and talk about how they are better. Now in the AP and Coach's Top 25, Ohio State is ranked higher, but that doesn't stop the people of the media saying that the Volunteers are better than the Buckeyes.
This article from ESPN, they made a Power Ranking in which Tennessee is rated 4th and Ohio State is at 5th. But people can't use the fact Ohio State hasn't played anyone because frankly Tennessee hasn't either.
They have played Chattanooga, Kent State, and NC State. You can try to make an argument that NC State is good competition but let's be honest for a second, NC State is not good at all this year. The Oklahoma win is what is getting everyone on their hype train.
Ohio State has more weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Jeremiah Smith, Emeka Egbuka, and Carnell Tate make one of the best wide receiver rooms in the nation. Pair that with the best running back room in the nation with Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson and this team is dangerous.
I think what Tennessee for sure has over Ohio State is their quarterback Nico Iamaleava, and their defensive end James Pierce Jr. But other than that, I don't believe Tennessee beats out Ohio State in anything else. Even with those the Buckeyes have to two elite defensive ends so that pretty much cancels out, and Will Howard is a great fit for Chip Kelly's offense.
Personally I think Ohio State is a lot better and would beat Tennessee if they played each other, and I think it's unfair for the Buckeyes to be getting rated lower than the Volunteers.
