The Ohio State basketball team still has an open roster spot. Why haven't they filled it yet?

The Ohio State basketball program did a lot of work in the transfer portal in the offseason. They had a lot of guys leave for the portal, so they were forced to do some work themselves. Jake Diebler went out and added two to three starters from the portal to replace the ones they lost.

Even after all of the portal movement, the Buckeyes still have an open roster spot. They only have 14 players right now. Jake Diebler had said that his team was going to be patient in filling that spot, but it's now the middle of July. How much more patient can he be?

It's Summer now and it's hard to get kids enrolled in school if they wait too much longer. The Ohio State basketball team is ready to compete for a spot in the NCAA Tournament again next season and they were hoping to get a player who can help them in that goal.

There's no indication of when Diebler might use that final spot on the roster. School starts next month at Ohio State, so a decision needs to be made pretty quickly if this player wants to be eligible to play next season. I'm not sure that's going to happen at this point.

Of the guys who are left in the transfer portal, none of them are going to make an immediate impact with this team. They just need to pick someone young who could fill in during an emergency situation because he's not going to be getting regular playing time.

The talent is very thin in the portal now. If Ohio State wanted to get someone who could actually help the team in a meaningful way, they should have acted sooner. It'll be interesting to see who they decide to settle on and bring in.
