Who will be the primary point guard for the Ohio State basketball team?

For the last couple of years, Burce Thornton has been the primary ball-handler for the Ohio State basketball team. Will that be the case again this season?

The Ohio State basketball program has been in the hands of Bruce Thornton for the last couple of seasons. That makes sense considering he is the best player the Buckeyes have. He was the only one for a while who could create his own shot on offense.

Thornton has been the primary ball-handler for Ohio State. He's been the point guard and has done his best to lead the team. Quite frankly, the Buckeyes haven't had many better options. Heading into 2024-25, they will have another option if they so choose.

Meechie Johnson is back with the program after spending two years away at South Carolina. He was the point guard for the Gamecocks. He is someone who is used to having the ball in his hands a lot as well. So who will be the point guard next season? Will it be Thornton or Johnson?

I think it will still be Thornton. Johnson can move and cut a little better off the ball than Thornton can. Both of them will switch off being the primary ball-handler throughout the season. Both of them are going to have the keys to the offense at various times throughout the year.

It's a good problem to have. Neither one of them is a great spot-up shooter, but they each can make enough shots from outside to command the respect of the defense. Both are better drivers and better at pull-up jumpers than they are spotting up for three.

Jake Diebler will have to play with some lineup combinations to figure out which ones work best. We know how much he likes Thornton. He will figure out how the half-court offense works with each player leading the way. Both players are going to get a lot of opportunities to create for others as well. Thornton is the better passer, which is why I believe he'll be the primary point guard.

Both of these guys are going to make each other better. The Ohio State basketball team is going to be better in general.
