Which non-transfer QB will make the biggest impact on the Ohio State football team?
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team brought in a slew of transfers once the season ended. They brought in a couple of new quarterbacks, a tight end, a safety, an offensive lineman, and a running back. Ryan Day is hoping that all of those players can make a difference at some point.
Obviously, Will Howard is the player who is going to make the biggest impact because he's likely going to be the starting quarterback. No other player has a bigger impact on a team than the quarterback. But which transfer who isn't a quarterback will have the biggest impact this season?
Looking at the available options, I think it will end up being Seth McLaughlin. That doesn't mean that I think he is going to be the best player of the new transfers. Let me explain. McLaughlin plays on a unit that is the key to the Buckeyes having a chance of winning it all.
McLaughlin is currently in a fight with Carson Hinzman for the starting center spot. He seems to have the lead for it coming out of Spring. He still has a chance to play guard if Hinzman does win the center job though. Either way, McLaughlin is more than likely going to improve the offensive line.
A season ago, the offensive line was not good. They couldn't protect the quarterback with either tackle in the passing game. In the running game, they struggled to get push in short-yardage situations. The line in general needs better players.
For some reason, Ohio State didn't grab another offensive lineman in the Spring portal window. They are going to roll with who they have. Day seems confident. I think McLaughlin is going to help them a lot up front. He's an excellent blocker. He just needs to make sure he can snap the ball well.
McLaughlin was a great addition to the Ohio State football team. He's going to do good things this season.
