There were a lot of changes in the offseason for the Ohio State football program. They added some guys from the transfer portal, including Will Howard, Caleb Downs, and Quinshon Judkins. Ryan Day made some changes on the coaching staff too, including letting Parker Fleming go after years of underperforming.

While the special teams still needs fixing, the Buckeyes are in a much better spot than they were last season. It's not just the player acquisition that makes them one of the best teams in the country. The coaching changes they made have helped too. None have been better than Chip Kelly coming in.

Kelly left his head coaching job at UCLA behind to become the new offensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He now works for his former player in Day. He just wants to coach football. He's doing that extremely well for Ohio State but he's giving them something even more than that.

What Chip Kelly is giving the Ohio State football program

Through three games, the Buckeyes have scored 52, 56, and 49 points on their opponents. The offense is explosive and dangerous. Kelly isn't even doing anything that special to make that happen. Kelly is just letting the playmakers make the plays and putting them in a position to do great things.

What Kelly is giving to the Buckeyes is more than just an explosive offense. He's giving them an identity. This team runs the football extremely well. The ground game is as explosive as the passing game is and that's the hallmark of a great offense. Kelly has pretty much called a perfect game in every game so far.

Play-calling confidence in Day had waned in recent years. Kelly brings a fresh approach on Day's offense and schemes players open in new ways than Day did, specfically from a run-game standpoint. That's what makes this team so different and part of what makes them so dangerous.
