The Ohio State football team is taking on Akron for the first time since 2021. They will be massive favorites and should be able to win the game. It's going to be Will Howard's first game as the starting quarterback and fans are ready to see what he looks like leading the offense.

While the Buckeyes should be able to handle the Zips, weather is always a wild card. Remember the Northwestern game in 2022? It was so windy that C.J. Stroud couldn't throw the ball more than two yards down the field. He had to use his legs for the first time ever in order to get the win.

Bad weather is the ultimate equalizer when the talent gap is this large between two teams. How will the weather look for this game in the Shoe? In August, the main thing you have to worry about is the heat and thunderstorms. Luckily, the Buckeyes will only have to worry about one of those things.

Weather forecast for Ohio State football vs. Akron

According to the Weather Channel, it will be 80 degrees at kickoff. There is also around a 30% chance of rain before kickoff, but it drops to about 15% at 3:30 when the game starts. The chance of rain gets a little higher towards the end of the game. It doesn't look like it will be thunderstorms though.

The good news is that it won't be unbearably hot like it has been all week in Columbus. The heat index has been over 100 degrees for the last few days and that could have been disastrous if that was the forecast because the temperature on the field could have been near 120 degrees.

If it rains hard, that could cause problems for the Buckeyes. Holding onto the ball becomes harder and it gets tougher to throw the ball. The good news is that there is still time for this forecast to change, so perhaps the chances of rain dissipate by then.
