This week, over 150 golfers will be competing for the chance to win a national open. The U.S. Open is being played this week at Pinehurst No 2. in North Carolina. Two Ohio State Buckeyes will actually be taking place in the championship with dreams of winning it.

Neal Shipley is one of them. Shipley is coming off the best season in his collegiate golfing career after he had a 71.35 scoring average. He's also coming off an appearance in golf's first major, the Masters. Shipley was actually the low amateur and won the silver medal for doing so.

Shipley won't be the only Buckeye to be playing in the U.S. Open. Maxwell Moldovan will also be playing at Pinehurst this week. Moldovan actually just finished up his Ohio State golf career. He just turned pro and will be playing this week as a professional for the very first time.

Moldovan has played in majors before. He actually played in the U.S. Open last year at Los Angeles Country Club. He finished 65th but made the cut. Now, he's trying to actually win some money at this U.S. Open. As an amateur, you aren't allowed to earn any money at golf tournaments.

It's very cool to see two Ohio State Buckeyes competing against some of the best golfers in the world. Scottie Scheffler is the favorite to win his second major of the year. The number one player in the world is coming off a victory at The Memorial in Dublin, Ohio. A few Ohio State football players were in attendance for that.

Hopefully, both of these Buckeyes are able to make the cut and play well at a golf course that is going to be set up very tough. The greens are firm and fast, which will put short-game savants at an advantage in this tournament. Both of these Buckeyes are good at that.
