How a former Ohio State football player can make a lot of money
By Ryan Stano
Former Ohio State football player Justin Fields was one of the best leaders the Buckeyes have ever had. He led the best Buckeye team I've ever seen assembled in 2019. When 2020 came around and Kevin Warren tried to cancel the season, he was one of the players who stepped up and put pressure on the Big Ten to change their mind.
After Fields' Ohio State football career, he was a first-round pick of the Chicago Bears. The Bears actually traded up to get him. Unfortunately, they didn't do a lot to support him. He had the worst offensive line and group of pass-catchers in the entire league.
Fields is no longer in Chicago. He was traded for just a sixth-round pick this offseason to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He's currently the backup to another new signing for the Steelers, Russell Wilson. It's the first time in Fields' adult life that he will be a backup to someone else.
Yet, Fields has a chance to revitalize his career in Pittsburgh. Wilson is old and did not play well while he was in Denver. Many expect him to falter this year and for Fields to eventually overtake him as a starter. If he does, he has a shot to become the dynamic player that everyone thought he could be.
Fields has a lot of work to do in order to make that happen. He still holds on to the ball too long, something he struggled with in 2020 with the Buckeyes. His intermediate passing still needs some work also. Those are things he can fix. He just needs an offensive line to block for him first.
I'm not sure how the Justin Fields story ends. This year will be a big year for his future. He's a free-agent after this season. If he gets on the field and plays well, he could make himself a lot of money.
