Top 2025 Ohio State basketball target schedules official visit
By Jacob Rhymer
With the roster for the 2024-25 Ohio State basketball team nearly complete, and summer practices getting underway, it's time for Jake Diebler to turn his attention to recruiting freshmen in the 2025 class. Yesterday afternoon, Diebler received great news on one of his top targets in next year's class.
According to Dushawn London of 247Sports, Darryn Peterson has scheduled an official visit to Ohio State with his trip to Columbus coming on Thursday, August 1st. Peterson is the No. 3 overall player in the 2025 class according to 247Sports, and he is the top player in the state of West Virginia.
Peterson is the highest-ranked shooting guard in the freshman class for the 2025-26 season, and has drawn interest from a handful of high-level programs. The 6-foot-5 95-pound shooting guard also scheduled an official visit to Kansas, which will take place on June 23rd, and he's been on a visit to Kentucky already as well.
With Peterson being a top-three nationally ranked prospect in the class of 2025, his recruitment will be a battle for Diebler to bring him to Columbus and play in the Scarlet and Gray. However, Diebler does have one advantage over these other top programs.
Even though Peterson goes to school in West Virginia attending Huntington Prep, he is originally from Ohio. Diebler could use that connection as a recruiting tactic to potentially land the top-three national recruit.
Peterson is extremely athletic with a nice jump shot and is strong with the basketball in his hands as well. His official visit in August will be a massive weekend for Jake Diebler and the Ohio State basketball program. The Buckeyes are very much in the mix, and being the original home state of the top-three national prospect is a major factor.
Peterson's recruitment process is certainly one to watch as it gets deeper in the process. Follow us on X, @ScarletandGame, to stay updated on all the latest Ohio State basketball recruiting news.
