Tony Alford continues to cause problems for the Ohio State football program. Ryan Day almost fired him at the end of last season due to the power performances in the running game. Yet, he decided to let him stay. Then Alford decided to betray him and head to Michigan.

Even now that Alford is gone, his mistakes are still taking a toll on the Buckeyes, It was reported on Monday that Dallan Hayden will be entering the transfer portal once it opens after the Spring Game. He will be finishing his collegiate career somewhere else.

Ohio State is at this point because of Alford's poor management of the running back room. Hayden was a very productive back whenever he was called into action. He helped save the Ohio State football team's season back in 2022 against Maryland when he ran for three touchdowns.

The problem is that Hayden never got enough carries despite showing he was a talented back. The Buckeyes opted to use Xavier Johnson and move Chip Trayanum from linebacker to running back instead of using him. That never made any sense to Buckeye fans.

Honestly, I'm surprised Hayden stayed as long as he did at Ohio State. He was redshirted last year despite both TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams getting hurt at different points of the season. They refused to put him out on the field despite never losing a fumble.

Now instead of having depth behind Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, the Buckeyes have nothing. They have to hope that both stay healthy. Because of Alford's mismanagement, they will have just two true freshmen and a walk-on to back up these guys. That's a big problem.

Perhaps the Buckeyes grab someone in the portal who has some experience once it opens in the Spring. It certainly would be scary if Henderson or Judkins got hurt with no one behind them with experience.
