2. The Ohio State football team needs more pass-catchers involved

Ohio State has some great receivers. One of them might even be better than what we thought he was. Freshman Jeremiah Smith had a great debut, catching six passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. It stands to reason that he will only get better as the year goes along.

While Smith was great and Carnell Tate caught a touchdown, there was a concerning pattern while the starters were out there. Only three receivers really caught the ball. Of Howard's 17 completions in this game, 14 of them were to the top three receivers on the team.

Isn't that how it should be though? Shouldn't the best pass-catchers on the team be getting the ball the most? Of course they should. But a tight end didn't get a catch in this game. They were hardly even targeted. They were supposed to be a bigger part of this offense.

Those top three receivers are pretty good. Smith, Tate, and Emeka Egbuka are all really talented individuals. There will come a time when someone else will need to step up. The running backs only caught two passes too, and those were both from TreVeyon Henderson.

Is this a massive problem? Not right now. Those three receivers are going to be able to get open a lot. But it would be nice to see a tight end or a running back be a little bit more of a threat in the passing game.

The final thing to be concerned about has to deal with the mental state of the Buckeyes.
