Three big winners of Ohio State football fall camp
By Ryan Stano
2. Will Howard
Last week, Ryan Day announced Will Howard as the starting quarterback of the Ohio State football team. Howard was the leader coming into the season after he transferred in from Kansas State because of his three years of starting experience with the Wildcats.
Howard was the leader coming out of the Spring Game and was the leader heading into Fall camp. Seeing him named as the starter is not a surprise. It was expected and it should give fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes a lot of comfort seeing him out there.
What wasn't expected is how sharp he's looked this Fall. At one point, Howard had only thrown one interception all camp and it was to Denzel Burke. When he's going against the best secondary in the country every day in practice, that's pretty impressive. Taking care of the ball is paramount in this offense.
How well Howard has looked in camp is a huge boost to the Buckeyes. The offense is the question mark heading into this season, mainly because of the offensive line and quarterback play. Those were the two weaknesses last year. It looks like both areas of the roster will be much better.
Howard has the keys to this offense and is surrounded by the best supporting cast he's ever had. He has what is being regarded as the best roster in college football in the last decade. He has no excuse to not perform and take this offense to a higher level than they were a year ago.
The final winner coming out of camp is on the defensive side of the ball.
