This Ohio State football coach could not have a hotter seat this season
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has some great coaches on staff this year. Bringing in Chip Kelly was the best move that any program made this offseason. He's the top assistant coach in the country and will now take over an offense that has lacked creativity in recent years.
Ryan Day also made moves by firing Parker Fleming and Perry Eliano. Eliano was replaced with Matt Guerrieri and the Buckeyes don't have a special teams coach anymore. Both of those were good moves and Fleming should have been fired a while ago.
Despite those great moves, the Ohio State Buckeyes still have one coach who shouldn't be on staff. He hasn't shown the ability to coach well on the field and the recruiting has been horrendous. That coach is offensive line coach Justin Frye who got another L on Saturday.
Justin Frye has the hottest seat for the Ohio State football team
Frye officially lost out on David Sanders Jr. on Saturday to Tennessee. That's something that was expected last week, but it underscores what a disaster Frye has been on the recruiting trail. He hasn't been able to land top prospects who have been interested in the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes only have two offensive line recruits in this year's class. Carter Lowe is a four-star recruit and is the highest of the two. But Frye hasn't been able to land highly-touted recruits. In fact, Frye hasn't grabbed an offensive lineman rated higher than the 120th overall recruit in the country.
Unless the offensive line shows that they are one of the best groups in the country, Frye shouldn't be back next season. He doesn't recruit well and the offensive line was the worst group on the field for the Buckeyes last season. That's a bad combination to have as a coach.
I hope the offensive line is good this season. I'd like nothing better than to see them play well. Frye needs to hope the same thing. Otherwise, he'll be out of a job.
