The Ohio State football team will have diversity in its offense once again

The Ohio State football team didn't have much diversity in the offense last year. That will change this season.

The Ohio State football team didn't have an elite offense last season. Quite frankly, it was troubling. It was the first time that had happened since before Urban Meyer got to Columbus. Kyle McCord didn't raise the ceiling enough to make up for a poor offensive line.

McCord didn't add anything in the run game, so that made it worse for a bad offensive line. He is now gone and Will Howard is now in. Howard does bring some value in the run game, even if he's no Justin Fields. His legs bring some diversity to an offense that had none last season.

Bringing in Quinshon Judkins at running back also helps with the diversity of this offense. The Buckeyes are no longer hamstrung by who they can send out there at running back during pass plays. Miyan Williams wasn't a bad pass catcher, but he's not as good as Judkins.

Chip Kelly calling the plays also gives the Buckeyes more diversity. Ryan Day's playcalling had become a bit stale. Chip Kelly loves getting as many people involved in the offense as he can so that it's not predictable. He loves putting his best players in different positions to succeed.

That offensive diversity is what makes it likely that this Ohio State football team will return to elite status as a team this year. The defense will once again be elite. It could be the best defense in the country next season now that Michigan lost a lot of its talent.

Howard has pressure on him to return the offense to an elite unit. If things don't go well early, things will get very hairy in Columbus. The non-conference slate is bad. Howard needs to look great for fans to be placated about the quarterback position with so many talented QBs behind him.
