The Ohio State football team still has no clue who will start at this position

While the Ohio State football team has most of the starters figured out at this point, there is still one position that has no clear leader for the starting spot.

The Ohio State football team has had a lot of battles for starting spots this Spring into the Fall. The Buckeyes have already named Will Howard as the starting quarterback for this season. That was the biggest positional battle that needed to be settled, although Howard had been the leader since he transferred in.

There are still a few other battles going on just a couple of weeks before the season starts. We still don't know who is going to start at right guard. C.J. Hicks and Sonny Styles are also battling for the same linebacker spot to start alongside Cody Simon.

There's also a less publicized battle going on that is still important for the Ohio State Buckeyes. That's the battle for punter. Jesse Mirco transferred after last season and left the Buckeyes without an experienced punter. Mirco had a rough season, so that may not be a bad thing.

Ohio State football program still doesn't have a starting punter

When asked about it last week, Ryan Day said that there is no real leader for that starting spot. It seems that everyone is still in it. That includes Anthony Venneri, who was with the Ohio State football team last year and sat behind Mirco. He's now a junior and is looking to win the job.

His main competition is true freshman Nick McLarty. McLarty is huge at 6'7 and 255 pounds as a punter. That's not something you see much out of someone in that position. McLarty comes in from Australia and uses the same rollout style or "Australian style" of punting that the program likes.

Joe McGuire is also in the running. He's from Australia too and has been in the program for a year as well. Those are the three players who are still in the running for the job and Day has not indicated that one of the guys has a lead over the other.

Hopefully, Ohio State doesn't need to use whichever punter wins the job very much. Even so, they still need someone who is competent.
