The Ohio State football team looked like the juggernaut they were supposed to be in the second half against Akron. That's especially true on the defensive side of the ball. After the Zips briefly took the lead after getting a field goal, the defense settled in and looked great.

Jeremiah Smith was the story of the game from the offensive side of the ball. The freshman receiver had six catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns in his first-ever game. He's the first Ohio State freshman to have at least two receiving touchdowns in his first game since 1996.

That performance from him was clearly impactful for at least one of the many recruits that the Ohio State football team had visiting this weekend. The Buckeyes were able to land a four-star receiver commit after the big performance which is the lone bright spot in a bleak August of recruiting.

Phillip Bell decided after the game that he wanted to be a Buckeye. Bell had officially visited the Ohio State Buckeyes in June but was expected to commit to USC after visiting there in late June. The native of Southern California has decided that Ohio State is the place for him.

Bell is 6'2 and 195 pounds so he has decent size. The best thing about him is his ability to get open with his great route running. He's able to create separation with ease down the field. That's something that Brian Hartline likes out of his wide receivers.

Adding Bell reduces the sting of losing out on Jaime Ffrench after he committed to Texas last week. The Buckeyes lost quite a few five-star recruits in August. Still, adding Bell is a good thing and the Buckeyes should feel good about his addition to this program.
