The Ohio State football program dodged a bullet not landing this transfer
By Ryan Stano
When the transfer portal opened, the Ohio State football program knew they needed help on the offensive line. They were able to grab Alabama center Seth McLaughlin from the portal to provide some depth and possibly start up front. He's currently battling for a starting spot during Spring practice.
McLaughlin wasn't the only Alabama offensive lineman that the Buckeyes tried to land from the portal. They also lightly pursued tackle Kadyn Proctor. Proctor was one of the top offensive linemen to enter the transfer portal considering he was a five-star recruit coming out of high school.
The Ohio State football program never really had a shot to land him. He ended up transferring back home to Iowa to become a Hawkeye. He's from Iowa, so that made a ton of sense, especially right after Nick Saban retired. Why not go home and play for your home state program?
Proctor has now decided to transfer for the second time since December. He's allegedly heading back to Alabama after collecting a few months of NIL from Iowa. Iowa fans are understandably livid with him. He used their program to get some cash before heading back to where he was before. In fact, he was the subject of an infraction probe by the NCAA because he went to Iowa.
It seems the Buckeyes were able to dodge a huge bullet. He did to Iowa what Quinn Ewers did to Ohio State, although on a lesser scale. He would have done the same thing to Ohio State if he had decided to head to Columbus instead of Iowa City.
I doubt the Buckeyes decide to go to the portal for any more offensive line help. They seem to like what they have right now. Proctor would have been an unnecessary distraction for a team that has a lot riding on this season.
I wonder if we'll ever find out what happened to Proctor while he was at Iowa.
