Former Ohio State football transfer target subject of rules infraction probe
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program did an excellent job working the transfer portal in the offseason. They knew what they needed to upgrade and went after guys that fit the mold they wanted. On the offensive line, they were able to add Seth McLaughlin from Alabama.
McLaughlin will join the interior of the offensive line, but the Buckeyes still need help at the tackle position. They were hoping to get in on Kadyn Proctor, who also entered the transfer portal from Alabama. He's a tackle and would have been a perfect fit for the Buckeyes.
Instead, Proctor chose to go to Iowa. That made sense considering he is from the state. Now, Iowa is self-reporting a violation related to his recruitment according to ON3. This came after Proctor gave an interview in which he said Iowa contacted him while he was still at Alabama.
This is only a Level III violation, so it's fairly minor. Still, it's hilarious that an Iowa assistant coach thought he had to do this in order to land this kid. He just wanted to play for Nick Saban. Once Saban retired, he was always going to head back home. Perhaps they were afraid Ohio State was going to swoop in with a big NIL deal.
Regardless of the reasons for why they did it, they will now face some sort of punishment. The Ohio State football team, meanwhile, will have to wait until Spring to upgrade the tackle position through the transfer portal. Once that window opens, I expect them to be active.
We'll see what the Buckeyes are able to do with all of the new talent that they have. It's up to the coaches to put it all together on the field and make it work. I expect that they can do that.
