The Ohio State basketball team needs another guard
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team got some bad news when they found out that Taison Chatman is going to miss the entire season. He tore his ACL and will miss the entirety of the 2024-25 season. He won't have the opportunity to make an impact on the team like he thought he was going to.
Ohio State still has an open roster spot that they can use. With the news about Chatman, it's clear that the Buckeyes need to use that open spot on a guard. They need to add someone who can handle the ball a bit and shoot. While they may not see a lot of playing time, they need the depth.
The Ohio State basketball team is in a position to be a lot better next season even without Chatman being able to play. They have better coaching and it seems like they have better confidence. Ohio State seems to be a team that others like better this year as well.
It's unclear when Jake Diebler is going to actually fill that roster spot. He's running out of time to do so though. You would think that they would want someone enrolled soon. Perhaps the Buckeyes are waiting on someone who won't get picked in the NBA Draft.
As long as someone doesn't sign with an NBA agent, they still have eligibility left. Perhaps Diebler has his eye on someone who has declared for the Draft. If they are able to grab someone like that, maybe they would actually get someone who would deserve playing time.
The Draft is in just over a week. My guess is that the Ohio State basketball team will have a full roster in the next couple of weeks following the Draft. If it gets past that and there's not another guard on the team, I'd be very surprised.
