The Ohio State basketball team loses a guard to injury for the entire season
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team is supposed to be a lot better this season. With the additions they made via the transfer portal, the Buckeyes are looked at as an NCAA Tournament team. That would be a big turnaround from the team they were last year when they fired Chris Holtmann midseason.
Adding a couple of starters from the transfer portal was good for them. They still have one more roster spot open. Jake Diebler addressed that but didn't get too specific on how they are going to use it. How they use it now is more important than ever.
That's because the Ohio State basketball team will now be without Taison Chatman for the entire 2024-25 season. Chatman tore his ACL during a workout and has already had surgery to correct the issue. The expectation is to have him back ready to go for next season.
This is a big blow to the depth of the Buckeyes' backcourt. They were expecting Chatman to help them off the bench as a shooter. He didn't get much playing time due to some injuries he was dealing with early in the season, and then he was passed up by Chris Holtmann.
When Chatman did play later in the season when Diebler took over, he looked good. His shooting wasn't quite as crisp as expected, but he wasn't afraid to take shots. That was something they had lacked for most of the season. His playing time was expected to increase this year.
Instead, Chatman will now have to wait until next season to make an impact with the Buckeyes. We wish him nothing but the best in his recovery and hopefully, he can contribute some real minutes to this team next year. He's had a tough start to his collegiate career but is still very talented.
