The Big Ten just got a lot easier for the Ohio State football team
By Ryan Stano
Do you remember the last time the Ohio State football team won the Big Ten Championship? It was back in 2020 when the Buckeyes also ended up playing for a national title. Since then, the Buckeyes haven't even been able to win their own division, the Big Ten East.
Now that 2024 is here, divisions go away in the Big Ten. The conference also is adding four new teams this year, including one that just played for a national title. Washington comes into the Big Ten with a lot of hype, but now they just lost their coach Kalen DeBoer.
DeBoer has decided to take the Alabama job. Add in the fact that TTUN is losing a ton of players, the Big Ten just got a lot easier for the Ohio State football team. Two big rivals got a lot weaker while the Buckeyes have gotten a lot better with everyone returning for next season, including now TreVeyon Henderson.
Of course, nothing is easy when it comes to The Game. TTUN has beaten Ohio State for three straight years. Even with the Wolverines losing a ton of guys, I still am not ready to say the Buckeyes will beat them. I'll believe it when I see it when it comes to Ohio State beating them with players Ryan Day recruited.
Losing DeBoer is a huge blow for Washington as they come into the conference. Ohio State doesn't play them this year, this reduces the likelihood that OSU would play them in a potential Big Ten Championship Game. That is of course assuming Ohio State can somehow beat Michigan.
Things seem to be going in Ohio State's favor recently. Hopefully, they can keep the momentum of this good start to 2024 all the way into Spring ball and into the Fall. If only I could say the same thing about the basketball team. That would be nice.
