Ryan Day has brought in some of the best recruiting classes in Ohio State football history. His program has never had worse than a top-five recruiting class since the 2019 class when it was a transition between him and Urban Meyer. He knows how to recruit.

Day has the luxury of being able to choose what kinds of players he goes after. With how good the Buckeyes' tradition is, the facilities are, and the resources that are available to the program, It's not a hard sell. Most recruits want to come to Columbus because they are one of the best programs in the country.

The transfer portal and NIL complicate things though. Ohio State can't rely solely on the things I just mentioned. Day knows this and he knows what he's looking for in a player. He talked about that in a conversation with Josh Pate of CBSSports. Take a look at this clip below from their conversation.

As you can see, Day knows exactly what he's looking for when it comes to an elite recruit. They obviously have to have certain traits, but he's looking for intangibles too. He wants players with fire and motivation to be great and players who want to get better.

It's hard to argue with the results Day's had on the recruiting trail. While the Buckeyes have underachieved on the field in the last few years, That hasn't been because of bad recruiting. The issues have been coaching on the field and making adjustments.

This is how the elite programs in the country recruit. Day's approach is why the Ohio State football program currently has the number-one recruiting class in the country. I expect them to be able to keep that ranking for a while too.

More prospects will be committing to the Buckeyes soon. This class is only going to get better.
