Recruiting in August was a disaster for the Ohio State football program
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has had the best recruiting class in the 2025 class for most of the year. A lot of that was built on the work that they did early this calendar year. They were hoping to have an even better class with what they were going to do in the month of August.
Instead, the Buckeyes floundered. They managed to only get two recruits in the month of August, and one was on Saturday afternoon after the game when they landed a four-star receiver recruit. Everything else around the program's recruiting was a disaster.
Justin Frye missed out on two offensive line recruits, including five-star tackle David Sanders Jr. Frye also missed out on a four-star recruit who ended up choosing Georgia Tech instead of the Buckeyes. That wasn't the only bad thing that happened on the recruiting trail.

Ohio State also lost out on a five-star in-state recruit to a Big Ten foe. The Buckeyes also lost out on another five-star prospect, this time a receiver just last week. Jaime Ffrench picked Texas instead of Ohio State despite the Buckeyes being the favorite to land him for months.
The latest batch of bad news is that five-star cornerback Na'eem Offord, who is a top-ten overall recruit in the country, is projected to flip to Auburn. This is despite the fact that Offord has been committed to the Ohio State football program since February and has disputed multiple other reports of him flipping.
If the Buckeyes end up losing him, that would be a disaster. The month of August could not have been worse for them on the recruiting trail. Not only did they whiff on most of their major targets, but they might lose one of the best players in their class.
