Ohio State football loses five-star recruit to Big Ten foe
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has done very well recruiting the class of 2025 so far. They have had the best recruiting class in the country for most of the year. That's because of their strong start in April and early in the year in general. They were hoping to have a similarly strong finish.
Ohio State has some massive recruiting targets who are making their recruiting decisions this month. A lot of them are five-star recruits. One of them is safety Trey McNutt whom the Buckeyes were on early in this class. He's a five-star safety from Shaker Heights, Ohio.
McNutt is in a similar vein to some of the other great safeties the Buckeyes have on the roster. Ohio State was hoping to add him to the likes of Caleb Downs and Sonny Styles, who has since moved to linebacker. Unfortunately, they lost him to another Big Ten foe instead.

McNutt has decided to attend Oregon instead of Ohio State. It's a big blow for the Buckeyes to lose such a talented player in the state of Ohio to another Big Ten foe. Had they been able to land McNutt, the Ohio State football team would have been able to bring the top two recruits in the state of Ohio.
Ohio State has already been able to land Tavien St. Clair, the very talented quarterback. He's the number two overall recruit in the country. McNutt eschews the Buckeyes and will head out west to play for the Ducks, who are suddenly putting together a monster class.
Oregon has the sixth-best class in the country right now, but that's only because they have just 15 commits total. They have three five-star commits, which is very strong. Ohio State still has the best class in the country and the best class in the Big Ten.
There are a few other recruits Ohio State is hoping to land in the month of August. This isn't a very good start.
