The Ohio State football team has a lot of hype surrounding the team this year. Expectations cannot possibly be higher for them. For a lot of fans, it's a national championship-or-bust season. Anything less than holding up that golden trophy at the end of the year is a failure.

On a team full of hype and expectations, no player has more hype surrounding him than true freshman Jeremiah Smith. Smith comes in as the best recruit in the country and the most hyped receiver in modern Ohio State football history.

Smith is going to get a lot of playing time as a true freshman. He won't be one of the top two guys to start out, but he'll be the third receiver. With how often the Buckeyes throw the ball around, that's enough for him to accumulate some nice stats. What are realistic expectations for him?

A new quarterback and a new offensive coordinator could change the dynamic. Chip Kelly is going to want to run the ball more than Ryan Day has in the past. With the two running backs he has at his disposal, it's not a bad idea. Still, Smith is going to get targets.

I think realistic expectations for him are somewhere in the neighborhood of 900 yards and six touchdowns. That might not sound like a lot, but considering the Buckeyes still have to get the ball to both Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate. Other guys will get catches too.

If Smith surpasses those numbers, he has a chance to go down as an all-timer. He could be even greater than Marvin Harrison Jr. thinks he was. It's way too early to be putting those kinds of expectations on him as a true freshman though. Let's see how he plays in an actual college game first.
