Ohio State football: Which QBs stay and which will go?

The Ohio State football team has five scholarship quarterbacks on the roster right now. There won't be by the time the Spring transfer portal window closes.

The Ohio State football program has a lot of quarterbacks on the roster right now. They have five guys who are hoping for playing time. Four of them are highly-touted recruits and one of them is a transfer portal guy. All think they should be starting for the Buckeyes this Fall.

While the starting job will most likely go to Will Howard, that hasn't stopped both Devin Brown and Lincoln Kienholz from competing every day to try to change that. That's not what I will be looking at as much this Spring. I'm wondering which quarterbacks will stay and which will go.

The Ohio State football team has too many quarterbacks

Who will stay to back up Howard this year? Will Brown and Kienholz want to do that after Julian Sayin transferred in as a freshman and Air Noland came in with the recruiting class? What happens when Tavien St. Clair comes in next year? There's no way all five quarterbacks will stay in the program.

The most likely scenario for me is for Lincoln Kienholz to transfer. Brown came out and said he is deeply committed to staying with the Buckeyes and competing for the job. It's admirable. Whether or not he starts in the next two seasons is a different matter.

Kienholz looked like a deer in the headlights when he came in for Brown in that Cotton Bowl. That image is likely sticking with the coaches too. With Sayin and Noland both in the program now, I bet he ends up going somewhere else to try and compete for a starting job.

I'm not even saying that's a bad thing. In fact, I think he should do it! He's still a good player. He just has too many quarterbacks ahead of him or tied with him on the depth chart. He deserves to go somewhere else that has a cleaner depth chart.

We'll find out soon after the Spring Game where the hierarchy lies in the room and who will stay and who will go.
