Ohio State Football: Was losing the Cotton Bowl a good thing for the Buckeyes?

The Ohio State football team lost to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl almost a month ago. Since then Ryan Day has been hitting the transfer portal hard, getting players where they're needed.

In one of the worst games ever played, the Ohio State football team lost to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl to end their 2023 season. Many saw that Ryan Day just simply needed to be fired, Day, in response to that, started getting assets that were needed from the transfer portal.

Since the loss, the Buckeyes have been able to pull in 6 transfers. Julian Sayin 5-star quarterback from Alabama, Caleb Downs one of the best defensive backs currently in college football from Alabama, Quinshon Judkins one of the best SEC running backs from Ole Miss, Seth McLaughlin from Alabama, Will Howard dual-threat quarterback from Kanas State, and tight end Will Kacmarek from Ohio are all with the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes too have had pretty much their entire team return. TreVeyon Henderson, Emeka Egbuka, Jack Sawyer, JT Tuimoloau, and Denzel Burke. Many reports have said that Ohio State should be the favorite to win the 2024 title next year.

Ryan Day, as of right now, has me impressed. The only thing he has to get correct this year is having the same aggression he has right now towards the transfer portal onto the field. As long as he does that right, no question the Buckeyes should win it all.

Ohio State has also hired Bill O'Brien as its new offensive coordinator. With this Ryan Day will no longer be calling plays. The Buckeyes also fired Special Teams Coordinator Parker Fleming, and they hired Matt Guerrieri as Safeties Coach. Corey Dennis' time as Ohio State’s quarterbacks coach is over, but he’s expected to remain with the program. These changes will help Ohio State become better and more well-rounded.

dark. Next. Next Story. Ohio State should be the frontrunner next year

Losing the Cotton Bowl has helped enlighten Ryan Day into being smart with recruiting. I think the loss made him realize what he needs, and where he needs it. He's created the best backfield in America, and one of the most unstoppable defenses in the country as well. With a team like this, it should be impossible not to win National Championship.
