Ohio State football team selects their captains for the 2024
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is getting ready to play their first game of the season in a couple of weeks. They take on Akron at the end of the month and are still getting their starters figured out. One thing they have already solidified is who the captains are for the season.
This year, there are just four captains. Back when Urban Meyer was in charge, there were sometimes upwards of nine captains in a single season, which was too much. Four is the proper number and the team decided to split it up. Two are on offense and two are on defense.
The Ohio State football team selects the captains for 2024
TreVeyon Henderson is one of the captains. The senior running back came in as a five-star recruit and immediately looked like one of the best backs in the country. Unfortunately, each of the last two seasons has been shortened by some sort of injury. He's hoping to have a healthy year in 2024.
Emeka Egbuka is looking for more of the same. He is also one of the captains. Like Henderson, he returned to the Buckeyes to beat Michigan, win a national title, and finish the year healthy. When he's healthy, he's one of the best receivers in the country.
On defense, the Ohio State Buckeyes decided to vote Cody Simon as a captain. Simon was also chosen as the player to wear the Block O jersey this year. The senior linebacker is looking to make an impact on a defense that is replacing both starters at linebacker.
Jack Sawyer is the other captain on defense. The Pickerington, Ohio native doesn't have a pair of gold pants yet and he doesn't want to leave Ohio State without some. He's determined to make sure the defensive line is dominant this season so that he can beat Michigan.
These are some of the best players on the Ohio State football team. They all need to be at their best if they wan to win a national title.
