Fifth-year senior chosen to wear the Block O jersey for the Ohio State football team
By Ryan Stano
One of the coolest recent traditions that the Ohio State football team started is the wearing of the Block O jersey. The player who gets to where it is someone who is chosen by the rest of his teammates. Jonathan Cooper, Thayer Munford, and Xavier Johnson are just some of the players who have gotten to wear it.
So what does it mean to wear it? The player who gets chosen to wear it is done so because he embodies everything that it means to be a Buckeye. He's a leader, a fighter, and a hard worker. He's someone who is respected by everyone on the team and is looked up to.
This year, the Buckeyes have chosen someone who has battled in his Ohio State football career to get a starting job this year. He has been in and out of the lineup in favor of other more talented players. Yet, he's earned the respect of his teammates. That player is linebacker Cody Simon.

Simon is in his fifth year with the Ohio State Buckeyes and has had quite the roller coaster career. He played a ton in his sophomore year only to get passed up by Tommy Eichenberg and eventually Steele Chambers. Simply put, he wasn't good enough to earn starters reps.
This offseason, Simon has been getting glowing reviews from everyone. James Laurinaitis, Jim Knowles, and Ryan Day have all loved what they've seen from him. He has earned a starting spot to start the season and is locked in as one of the two starters at linebacker.
His teammates clearly have liked what they've seen as well because they voted him to wear the Block O. He has the opportunity to actually wear the number 0 or stay with his 30. Either way, it's a huge honor for him to receive in his final season as a Buckeye.
