Ohio State football team is the highest-ranked Big Ten team in preseason poll
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team does play football this month. They will play on the month's final day against Akron to open up their season. High expectations surround this team heading into the 2024 season based on the roster they have returning on both sides of the ball.
Ohio State was expected to be one of the highest-rated teams in the country in the preseason polls. The polls have come out and that ended up being true. The Buckeyes are the second-ranked team in the entire country, trailing just Georgia in the preseason coaches poll. Ohio State received seven first-place votes.
Georgia is first, followed by Ohio State, Oregon, Texas and Alabama. Oregon was long thought to be the other top-five team in the Big Ten, and that ends up being true. They are the toughest team on the Buckeyes' schedule and it's a road game, which makes it even harder.
The Ohio State football team will have to face several other ranked opponents
There are four other Big Ten opponents in the preseason top 25. Michigan comes in at eight. Some dumb coach gave them a first-place vote, which is a joke. Penn State is one spot behind at nine, meaning the Big Ten has four of the top nine teams in the country according to the coaches.
USC is ranked 23rd and Iowa comes in at 25. The Buckeyes don't have to take on USC this season but will have to play Iowa right before traveling to Eugene. That gives the Big Ten six teams in the top 25 according to the coaches. I don't expect a lot of variation from the media when that poll comes out.
This is about the right spot for the Ohio State football team. Second is a reasonable start to start the season. The preseason polls don't mean too much anyway. It matters where the Buckeyes are ranked at the end of the year.
