Ohio State Football: Ryan Day gets blame for TTUN title
Ryan Day and the Ohio State football team should feel like they are responsible for letting Michigan win a national title. The Buckeyes should have been able to stop the Wolverines' chances at the end of November but failed to do so.
Day had his opportunities in that game in Ann Arbor, but again, failed execution and poor offensive line play doomed Ohio State's chances. It's no secret that the biggest reason why Day has three straight losses to Michigan is because of losing the battle in the trenches. As to date, Day has yet to do anything about that.
We can go on and on about how the Buckeyes have more talent and the recruiting numbers don't even compare. But at the end of the day, Lou Holtz was right. Ohio State just is not a tough team. But you can have it all. Look at what Urban Meyer did. He had top-five recruiting classes galore, but he darn well made sure that his lines on both sides of the ball were up to par.
I hope Ryan Day watched that game last night. I hope he let it sink in that he let Michigan off the hook and had a hand in awarding Michigan their first outright national title since the 1940s. I hope this Michigan win stings and eats at this program all offseason.
Ohio State better wake up and realize they need to act accordingly and get the trenches figured out. Even Larry Johnson has not been pulling his weight, only signing a class of two players in 2024. That's ridiculous.
Ohio State will have their chance in Columbus next November, but it won't be the same. Michigan is losing virtually every top player from this '23 roster and it's unlikely that Jim Harbaugh will stick around for it.
Make no mistake, this is Ryan Day's biggest offseason of his head coaching tenure. Fans and a new incoming Athletic Director won't put up with four straight Michigan losses. These coaching hires better be right. These transfer portal players coming in better make impacts. If not, Ryan Day could be looking for a new job next offseason.
