Ohio State football lands stud running back overnight from transfer portal
By Ryan Stano
We don't have to talk about last night's game. All of those wins will get vacated anyway. What we will talk about is how the Ohio State football program got better with the addition of a stud running back to help a position group that is struggling with its depth.
I told you yesterday that the Buckeyes were a favorite to land him, and he committed after the game last night. That is of course running back Quinshon Judkins. Judkins comes to Columbus from Ole Miss, becoming the second Rebel in as many years to do so. Davison Igbinosun is the other.
Judkins immediately makes the Buckeyes better. He is the best running back in the portal and has run for almost 1,500 yards in each of his two seasons. He gives the Buckeyes depth that they didn't have before, and depending on what TreVeyon Henderson decides to do, gives them a new starter at the position.
If Henderson decides to leave for the NFL, Judkins can step in immediately and be the leader in the backfield. If Henderson stays, they have the best 1-2 punch in the country. What's uncertain now is the future of Dallan Hayden, whom the Buckeyes redshirted this year.
Hayden has shown flashes of being really good when the Buckeyes have actually played him. He hasn't gotten the chance to be the man yet. He helped the Ohio State football team win the Maryland game in 2022 after he scored three touchdowns. Yet, he will either have to wait again or transfer out in the Spring.
As far as Judkins is concerned, he gives the Buckeyes more explosiveness on the offensive side of the ball. Now they just need to make sure that they can block for him up front. The offensive line is still a big concern.
