The Ohio State football team is making a late push for an in-state five-star safety. That safety has now moved back his commitment date.

The Ohio State football program has worked very hard to get the top recruiting class in the country for the 2025 class. They are doing their best to keep that lead as well. Alabama is hot on their tail for that top spot though. Ohio State now has 24 total commitments, so their total number of recruits is helping.

Just because they have 24 commits right now doesn't mean that they are going to be stopping for this class either. There's a good shot that they end up taking a lot of kids. 30 recruits isn't out of the question. There are a few five-star recruits who are still up in the air.

One of those recruits is Trey McNutt. McNutt is a five-star safety from Shaker Heights, Ohio. Ohio State made a strong push for him early before standing back a bit. Now, they've made another late push for him and its making him have second thoughts about his college decision.

Ohio State football recruiting target Trey McNutt changes his commitment date

McNutt was initially slated to commit to commit on Friday. He's choosing between the Ohio State football program, Florida, Texas A&M, Oregon, and USC. He was widely expected to choose the Ducks as they enter the Big Ten. McNutt decided not to commit and has pushed his date back.

McNutt will now commit on August 3rd. It just makes the month of August an even bigger recruiting month than it already was for the Buckeyes. They will now have three five-star prospects decide whether or not they will be attending Ohio State for the next three to four years.

The Buckeyes have made a hard push for McNutt as of late. I'm a little surprised they weren't all over McNutt for this entire recruiting cycle, but it seems some other players were a higher priority. The safety position is pretty loaded for Ohio State, so that makes sense.

We won't find out for another couple of weeks whether or not McNutt will stay in the state of Ohio and move to Columbus. Hopefully, the Buckeyes are able to get him to stay.
