Ohio State football might finally have one major advantage over TTUN
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has had more pure talent than Michigan has for years now. Their recruiting has been superior at every level. Yet, that has not translated into wins in The Game for the last three seasons. Ohio State hasn't won The Game since 2019.
A major reason for that has been the coaching at Michigan. Say what you want about their ability to recruit under Jim Harbaugh, but his coaching staff got the absolute maximum out of their guys. They developed these players to be tough and reliable in the biggest games.
Ohio State knew they didn't have that, so Ryan Day finally made some changes. The went out and got Jim Knowles a couple of years ago and grabbed Bill O'Brien in the offseason. He's hoping those two coordinators can finally given him something he hasn't had against TTUN: a coaching advantage.
Michigan's coaching staff has been gutted this offseason. Harbaugh headed to LA to coach the Chargers and has taken key staff members with him. Michigan has now lost their defensive coordinator and their strength coach, two key cogs in their machine.
Sherrone Moore has already beaten Day once, but that might be a tall order next season. His entire offense is gone and his two best coaches are now too. Day finally might finally have enough over TTUN to get a much-needed win in the rivalry.
Of course, this scenario also puts more pressure on him to win. If he doesn't win The Game in 2024, he's definitely gone. The only chance he'd have to save his job is to win the national title after getting into the 12-team Playoff.
Day has the talent to make this season a special one. He's got perhaps the best defense in the country and studs on offense. It's up to him to prove that his coaching staff does have advantages that can lead to some big-time wins.
