Ohio State football fans have to hope Ryan Day is more decisive with this one battle

The Ohio State football team is going through a quarterback competition for the second year in a row. Last season, Kyle McCord was battling with Devin Brown for the job. He didn't officially win the job until after the second game of the season against Youngstown State.

This season, Brown is fighting with Will Howard as well as some freshmen for the job. Howard comes in as the favorite to win the job because he's a transfer quarterback who has experience playing in a lot of games. He's actually played in a conference championship game, unlike anyone else who is battling for the job.

Ryan Day has said that he won't name a starter until the Fall. He did the same thing a year ago when McCord eventually won the job after coming in as the favorite. Day was looking for consistency but never got it from anyone. This year, he needs to be more decisive with the decision.

This competition can't last into the season. Day needs to let Howard know that he has the job by the time the season starts. He can't be looking over his shoulder every practice knowing that someone could take his job if he does something stupid in practice.

Howard is the best choice for this season. The Buckeyes will have a QB competition again next season once he leaves and that one will be a true competition with no favorite. This year, Day needs to make a decision sooner rather than later for the good of the rest of the Ohio State football team.

How quickly Howard forces Day to make this decision, the better fans will feel. He needs to be able to show that he is the man as soon as Fall practice starts. That will mean that he's ready for the moment of playing some of the best teams in the country.
