Ohio State Football: Expect coaching staff changes soon
The Ohio State football team and its coaches are busy preparing for Missouri in this week's Cotton Bowl. But as the week starts to unfold, it could be time to expect some big news regarding the coaching staff for next season.
Remember a few years back it was the week leading up to the 2021 Rose Bowl that news started to leak about potential staff changes for the Ohio State football team. News broke that Matt Barnes would not be back, and it was a week later that offensive line coach Greg Studrawa was let go.
If history is any indicator, Ryan Day does not like making staff changes before Bowl game prep and recruiting classes are finished up. I think Day is also genuinely a good guy too, and he does not want anybody to be fired right before the holidays.
So, don't be shocked if we start to hear rumblings about potential staff changes this week. At the top of that list has to be special teams coordinator Parker Fleming, who has not been pulling his weight. Quarterback's coach Corey Dennis could also be a candidate to be let go as he is currently in the final year of his contract.
Earlier this month, we gave you a list of three coaches that would make sense for Ohio State to hire. I believe any of those three coaches would make excellent additions to this current staff. But one thing is clear, Ohio State needs to upgrade its recruiting at positions other than wide receiver, quarterback, or cornerback. While this past class was very good, it was most certainly top-heavy in those three position groups.
Hopefully, Ryan Day already has a plan in place on how to address the current makeup of his staff. And as the week in Texas unfolds for this Ohio State football program, don't be surprised if news starts to leak about potential changes to the coaching staff.
