Ohio State football: Adding four-star OL won't save Justin Frye

The Ohio State football team got a four-star lineman Jayvon McFadden on Saturday. While Justin Frye is touting it as a win, it's not the win he thinks he is.

The Ohio State football team landed a four-star offensive lineman on Saturday to add to their 2025 recruiting class. Jayvon McFadden picked the Buckeyes over Florida, Colorado, Penn State, and more. He becomes the 25th member of the Ohio State Buckeyes' 2025 class and the third offensive lineman.

McFadden is an interior lineman who stands at 6'5 and 300 pounds. He hails from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. McFadden is a solid prospect, but he's far from perfect. There's a reason that he is a borderline four-star prospect. Still, Frye is taking this as a win.

Frye has been getting torched for his approach to recruiting and for how badly he's been doing on the recruiting trail. He still hasn't gotten a commitment from a five-star recruit in his time with the Buckeyes and hasn't proven that he can be an elite on-field coach.

Let me be clear; I don't think McFadden is a bad player. I think with the right coaching and development, he can develop into a starter at some point in his collegiate career. He's got some nice physical tools, he just has to figure out how to put it all together.

This is more of an indictment on Frye and what he thinks constitutes a win. He lost a five-star recruit to Tennessee and another recruit to Georgia Tech last week. When asked about it, he touted McFadden as some sort of can't-miss prospect who will solve all of Ohio State's problems.

Frye is on the hottest seat possible entering this season. Short of Ohio State winning the Joe Moore Award for having the best offensive line in the country, Frye is likely going to be sent packing next offseason. He might not be the only coach leaving the program depending on what happens too.
