Saturday in Columbus is a big day for Ohio State. The Buckeye football team gets their season kicked off against Akron, and Jake Diebler and the Ohio State basketball team host their top recruiting target in 2025, five-star combo guard Darryn Peterson on an official visit.

Peterson has been on Jake Diebler’s radar since even before he took over as head coach of the Ohio State basketball team. Now Diebler will welcome the highly-skilled guard on an official visit to check out the Buckeyes.

The five-star guard is originally from the Northeast Ohio area but will play his last season of high school basketball at Prolific Prep in Napa, California after transferring from Huntington Prep in West Virginia. With Peterson being from Ohio, it makes this a massive weekend for Diebler trying to get him to come play college basketball in his home state.

The Ohio State basketball team was one of Peterson’s eight finalists that he announced nearly a month ago. Along with the Buckeyes, the list included Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Kansas State, Arizona State, USC, and Washington.

This trip to Columbus will be Peterson’s second official visit in the month of August as he visited USC on August 2nd. The guard has previously visited Kentucky and Kansas and has another official visit scheduled at Kansas State for the end of September.

Peterson is the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2025 class according to 247Sports, and is the highest-ranked guard in the class. He’s a 6’5 195-pound combo guard who has a nice jump shot, a good handle, and incredible athleticism.

With Ohio being the home state of Peterson, it makes the Buckeyes very much in the mix for the five-star guard. This is a great time for Diebler to bring in recruits so they can see the atmosphere and support from Buckeye Nation to help boost the chances of landing one of his top recruiting targets.
