The Ohio State basketball program has a lot of new pieces on this year's team. After Jake Diebler was named as the full-time head coach, a few Buckeyes left in the transfer portal. He went and replaced those guys with other transfer portal players, as well as some recruits.

Ohio State didn't lose any of the recruits they had for the 2024 class even after the coaching change was made. Diebler has shown that he can recruit at a high level as a head coach. That was clearly one of the reasons why they got their first commitment for the 2025 class on Monday.

Dorian Jones, a four-star guard from Cleveland, has committed to the Buckeyes. He chose the Ohio State basketball program over Michigan, Rutgers, and Missouri. Jones is a shooting guard that stands at 6'4 and 160 pounds, so he has some length at that position.

Because of that length, Jones describes himself as a great defender. He can also shoot it well from deep, which is what Diebler wants from his shooting guards. He wants the Buckeyes to start shooting more threes and we saw that in the second half of last season.

Jones is the first member of the 2025 class to commit to the Buckeyes. Diebler already has a five-star guard for the 2026 class committed to him. Concerns about his recruiting ability have been unfounded so far. He is doing a good job of recruiting, especially in the state of Ohio.

Ohio State has a lot more recruiting to do in this cycle. They have some guys who are looking to make visits and there will be offers given out. This is a good start to the 2025 recruiting class. Jones is a really good player and once he puts on more weight, he will be a solid player on both ends of the floor.
