Ohio State basketball team could get first commit of 2025
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball program is trying to get its identity back. In the late 2000s and early 2010s, they were one of the best programs in the country. They were competing for number-one seeds in the NCAA Tournament and making Final Fours. Ohio State was the most consistent program in the Big Ten.
Since then, they have fallen by the wayside. Once Thad Matta left, the Buckeyes haven't made it into the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament. They haven't even made the NCAA Tournament in the last two seasons. Jake Diebler is determined to change that and bring the Buckeyes back to where they used to be.
In order to do that, they must recruit at a high level. Diebler is looking to start doing that. While the Ohio State basketball program doesn't have any recruits for 2025 yet, they could get their first on Monday. Four-star shooting guard Dorian Jones could be that commitment.
Jones is choosing between four different schools. Other than Ohio State, Michigan, Rutgers, and Missouri are the other schools that are in the running. Jones is a four-star prospect from Cleveland, so it would be nice if the Buckeyes could get an in-state kid.
Jones will make his decision on Monday at 4 pm. He could be the first member of the 2025 recruiting class and he's the type of player Diebler wants. He has length, he can handle the ball, and he can shoot it from three. Those are all traits he is looking for in a player.
Ohio State seems like the favorite to land him, but you never know. We'll see what decision he makes on Monday afternoon. Jones isn't the only 2025 recruit who will be making his decision soon. Diebler will have his first recruit for 2025 soon enough.
