Ohio State basketball alumni team Carmen's Crew wins The Basketball Tournament
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball alumni team made a run to the finals of The Basketball Tournament on Sunday. They did so after a strong run of play from a few former Buckeyes. The winner of TBT gets $1 million in prize money while the loser gets nothing. It's a lot of pressure to play in the finals.
Carmen's Crew had won TBT one other time in history. They won it back in 2019 and haven't made the finals any other time until this season. Led by Jared Sullinger, they were hoping to get a second title this season. In order to do so, they had to take on Forever Coogs, the Houston alumni team.
They were able to get the win by a score of 69-65. They won it on a Jared Sullinger bucket to take home the $1 million prize. Carmen's Crew leaned on Sullinger in this game, which makes sense considering he's their best player. He finished with 18 points on 5/7 shooting while adding eight rebounds.
Kaleb Wesson was second on the team in scoring. He poured in 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. His brother Andre had 13 points as well. The former Ohio State basketball players on the roster were critical to the success of the team in this final matchup.
Now that Carmen's Crew has won it for the second time, it'll be interesting to see who decides to play for the team next year. This year's team had the fewest number of former Buckeyes on the roster since the team was created. I'm sure more will want to play after this championship performance.
Congratulations to Carmen's Crew for this championship. It's well-deserved. $1 million will now be distributed throughout the roster. It's a lot of money to win for just a month's worth of work.
