Ohio State has plenty of great athletes across the entire athletic department. From the football and men's basketball team, to the women's hockey team, the Buckeyes have plenty of winners. The Ohio State Athlete of the Year came from the Ohio State women's basketball team though.

Jacy Sheldon has been named the Ohio State Athlete of the Year. She was named that after a stellar senior season, although the season ended in disappointment in the NCAA Tournament. Sheldon was the leader of the Buckeyes and was the best player on the team.

This past season, Sheldon averaged 17.8, 3.8 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game. Her defense was one of the main reasons why the Buckeyes were so good over the past few years. She also shot 50.5% from the field and 37% from three. Sheldon was First-team All-Big Ten and Second-team All-America.

Unfortunately, Sheldon and the rest of the Ohio State Buckeyes weren't able to avoid getting upset in the second round by Duke at home. It was a bad loss and a terrible way for Sheldon to end her Ohio State career. Now, she's in the WNBA after she was a first-round pick.

Sheldon was the fifth overall pick by the Dallas Stars. So far in the WNBA, she is coming off the bench. Sheldon was a fan favorite while she played for the Buckeyes. Being a Dublin native certainly helped that fact. But what made her so loved was her style of play.

While Sheldon's career didn't end with a national championship or a Final Four, she still had some great moments. She helped the Buckeyes knock off UConn and end their Final Four streak. Her play was fun to watch over the past five years she was an Ohio State Buckeye.
